Sean Astin azt nyilatkozta a SCI FI Wire-nak, hogy megrémülne, ha újra kellene játszania Samut A hobbit most készülő adaptációban. Ámbár Középfölde szeretett félszerzetei éppenséggel nem szerepelnek A hobbitban, Astin feltételezi, hogy fel fogják kérni, hogy szerepeljen a filmekben.
Azt csak úgy megjegyzem, hogy Hollywoodban nem lehetetlen, hogy azok, akik az íróasztalok mögött ülnek, meg különböző grafikonokat mustrálnak, híres színészekkel vacsoráznak, a nagyobb bevétel érdekében hajlandóak bizonyos könyvadaptációknál, szó szerint a kukába dobni magát a könyvet (na jó, csak elteszik a fiókba), és valami újat kitalálni. Astin: Nem számolok a visszatéréssel. Peter tudja, hogy csak szólnia kell, mikor és hol, és én ott leszek. De nem tudom. Nem tudom. Fogalmam sincs mi a helyzet. Mindenki azt kérdezgette pár évvel ezelőtt, amikor még a trilógia futott a mozikban, hogy elkészül-e A hobbit is? A studiónak csak korlátozott jogai voltak meg rá, és addig nem léptek, nem akartak tenni semmit sem, amíg az összes jog a birtokukba nem kerül, és nem léptek volna egyezségre a többi céggel sem, akiknél megvoltak a többi jogok, blah, blah, blah. Én mindig csak azt mondtam: Emberek, nem vagytok észnél! Persze, hogy megcsinálják a filmet és nagyszerű lesz, és Peter fogja elkészíteni! Most meg már készítik is! És nagyon is izgatott vagyok, teljesen oda vagyok, hogy láthatom őket. De személyesen nem hiszem, hogy fel fognak hívni.
- Mennyire nehéz elhinni, hogy már majdnem tíz év eltelt azóta, hogy elkezdtétek forgatni A Gyűrű Szövetségét?
Astin: Még nem telt el annyi.
- Az első film 2001. decemberében került a mozikba, és 1999-ben kezdtétek el forgatni.
Astin: Igazából 1999. október 19-én. Na, most megfogtalak szakmailag.
- Te és a feleséged jelenleg egy ifjúsági novellából írtok forgatókönyvet, aminek a címe "Számláld meg a csillagokat". Te leszel a producer és a rendező is egyben, de nem ez az egyetlen projekted jelenleg. Te vagy a kitömött panda ügynöknek, Osónak a hangja. A sorozat címe Oso, a különleges ügynök, és a Disney Playhouse mutatja be április 4-én. És akkor még ott van egy másik animációs film is, "Az erdő szelleme".
Astin: Osót igazából a kis gyerekeknek szánjuk, az igazán kicsiknek, akik még csak 2-3 évesek. Ez egy picit olyan, mint a James Bond filmek. Fogjuk a Bond karaktert és ráhúzzuk egy gyerekre. Oso egy pandamaci, nagyjából 40-45 cm magas. Egy zümmögős, kalandos figura, minden kütyüvel felszerelve. Van egy beszélő bigyója az övére szerelve, ami mindig megmondja neki, hogy mit csináljon. Van egy tengeralattjárója, meg egy űrhajója is. Kiforrott különleges ügynök akar lenni, és minden epizódban megbízzák, hogy egy-egy gyereknek segítsen mindennapos dolgokban, hogyan készítsenek puzzlet, ágyazzanak meg, süssenek süteményt, hogyan menjenek el a könyvtárba. Persze mindent elfuserál, de a gyerekek végül megoldják a dolgot, és miközben ők segítenek neki, egyben ő is segít nekik. Egyébként nagyon büszke vagyok rá, és és több időt töltöttem el ezzel, mint A Gyűrűk Urával, vagy a The Color of Magic-kel (A mágia színe), vagy akármelyik másik filmmel, amit leforgattam. Rengeteg munkát fektettem ebbe a kis animált tv-sorozatba.
- És mit tudsz mondani "Az erdő szellemé"-ről? Ha az IMDB helyes, akkor a szereposztásban (szinkron) te, Anjelica Huston, Ron Perlman és Giovanni Ribisi is szerepel.
Astin: Nem tudom, hogy ez már végleges-e, vagy csak elvileg az. Mint minden balliberális számára, nekem is öröm, hogy készül egy olyan környezetvédő film, mint ez. Pici gyerekeknek szól, és az egész Spanyolországban készült, igazi spanyol produkció, és gyakorlatilag ők utaztak ide, hogy minket, ismert amerikai színészeket, mint leendő szinkronhangokat kérjenek fel, mert így sokkal jobban tudják népszerűsíteni Amerikában, és más angolul beszélő országokban.
